“On
Wednesday, March 22, fourteen people loaded on to two vans and went to
Bayou La Batre, Alabama to continue with the recovery from Hurricane
Katrina. Though much progress has been made, there are still areas
that have not been touched since the hurricane. In addition to
holding services Wednesday evening at the newly opened Bayou La Batre
Church of Christ where J. V. Lamar serves as minister, the group
distributed approximately 700 sacks of food, cleaning supplies, and
other personal need items from the building; delivered over 100 boxes
of food to homes in need; unloaded a tractor trailer from the Churches
of Christ Disaster Relief that contained 48 dinette sets, 400 boxes of
food, cleaning supplies, and boxes of personal need items; cleaned
yards of several members that needed assistance; and met with several
members and nonmembers of the church. Those participating included
Tommy Baragona from the Booneville Church of Christ, Ashley
Whitehurst, Kok Hai Tan, Mihyun Kim, Brandy Barnett, Bonnie Smith,
Jill Irwin, Stacy Irwin, Betty Bush, Bobby Bush, Katie England, Micah
England, Barbara England, and Richard England.”
